We will be in our New Office
Monday, March 23rd!

That's right - we are moving. Just a hop, skip and jump away from our current location, on March 23rd you can find us in our new 2000 square foot office at 2244 Sunstates Court, Virginia Beach 23451.

This larger space will allow us to provide a complete menu of services and more convenient scheduling, while maintaining the comfortable, peaceful environment that you have become accustomed to.

View and print complete directions here.

The Formal Debut of Global Movements!

Many of you have already begun to participate in our Global Movements program. We are making the official debut with our new space, which has over 300 square feet dedicated just for movement!

At just $10 a class (or $8 if you prepay) it's a fantastic way to establish core strength and re-educate those neurons!

The side effect of injuries, surgeries, stress and poor conditioning is restricted and dysfunctional movement that pulls the body out of its ideal alignment causing undue joint pain, muscle imbalances and inflexibility.

Global Movements interrupts old programming and re-educates the body to move fully and properly in accordance with the body’s natural biomechanical design. Proper strength, flexibility, balance and coordination is essential to maintain the results achieved through Global Healing Therapies which include nutritional counseling, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, body memory transformation and massage.

Range of motion exercise consists of 60+ movements that articulate all joints of the body through a circular range of motion.

Functional movement training consists of graduated squat training, deadlift and overhead press.

Anyone can do Global Movements! The program is universal and adjustable to meet the unique needs of each individual. In sync with the Global Healing philosophy, Global Movements facilitate each individual’s innate healing response and empowers individuals to create and maintain a vital mind, body, and spirit!

April classes are slated on Wednesday nights as shown on the calendar below.

Call or e-mail Teresa at 757.491.2598 to reserve your spot. Space is limited.

Introducing Robert J. Wilson, CMT

Although Rob has been an integral part of Global Healing Therapies since 2007, many of you have not had the opportunity to meet him. He is a leader in the Global Movements Program, and our resident massage therapist. We are so pleased to have him as part of our team, and to introduce him to you.

I love fitness. Throughout my life I have been exposed to a variety of sports, martial arts, and other mind body disciplines. When we’re very young we assume that the people in our immediate environment represent the broad populace in general. During my formative years my parents were athletes, so I spent a lot of time in a physical training environment. It wasn’t until I got a little older that I realized that the things that I took for granted, like daily exercise and good nutrition, are not in the forefront of most peoples’ consciousness. I’m not sure I could have articulated it then, but I also began to notice that on a whole our culture was not living in a way that optimized our potential as vital conscious beings.

As I got older, I began to explore ways to use what I knew to help others. I was constantly helping friends and family to get on track with health and exercise programs. This was all very casual and nothing I had even considered for a career at the time. In fact, I went to college to study Russian as foreign language!

Before long, I couldn’t ignore my true passion. I decided to drop out and attend massage therapy school. This was a life changing experience for me. I was exposed to an incredible amount of health and wellness information that armed me with tools to carry out my passion for helping people reclaim their health. For the next four or five years I dove head first into the massage community, exploring as many types of manual therapies that I could come across. Anything I could find to help people, I would use. In spite of this, I met little success in terms of creating real lasting change with my clients. It was at this time I had three realizations:

  1. I cannot do this alone. I needed help from experts who knew things I did not and could offer differing view points on complex client problems
  2. The modern American lifestyle is generally one of stress and depletion. If clients are not willing to change their overall pattern of living to one of peace and vitality, their success in treatment would always be limited.
  3. Most people do not use their bodies in a way that enhances their life. In fact, most clients ignored their body altogether unless it hurt!

I knew then it was time for a more global view of treatment that included manual therapies, lifestyle education, and exercise training. Enter Global Healing Therapies.

My introduction to Jonathan Tripodi and Dr. Janine Lex came as a welcome sign from the heavens! Here were two people who had come to similar conclusions I had, and not only that, they were putting it into action. I knew immediately I wanted to be part of this team. I was initially brought into the office as a massage therapy contractor, but I was aware right away that this was the venue to bring out my knowledge and experience of strength and conditioning. The synergy was immediate. The fusion of an eclectic variety of manual therapies, functional movement strategies, and chiropractic techniques covers a lot of ground in truly enhancing the quality of life of all who come through our doors.

More Bad News for Splenda

A recent press release dated September 22, 2008 again cites the dangers of sucralose (the active ingredient in Splenda.)

Among the results in the study by Drs. Mohamed B. Abou-Donia, Eman M. El-Masry, Ali A. Abdel-Rahman, Roger E. McLendon and Susan S. Schiffman is evidence that, in the animals studied, Splenda reduces the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50%, increases the pH level in the intestines, contributes to increases in body weight, and affects the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in the body in such a way that crucial health-related drugs could be rejected. You can read the complete release here.

The Citizens for Health have been working for over 3 years to revoke the FDA's approval of sucralose. If you wish to support this movement, take a moment and send the FDA an e-mail.

Tired of the FDA's lax stance on consumer protection? The American Association for Health Freedom has created a petition for FDA reform.
